Watchmen

My first impression when I received the comic Watchmen from amazon was "Is this a book for an English class?", but now that we have discuss many lenses it makes more sense why we are using it. Watchmen's genre is kind of hard to define. Yes Watchmen is a comic, and of course is science- fiction because it has heroes in it and supernatural stuff that does not happen in real life. It falls into the usual comic line between heroes and their enemies, or the villains, but watchmen has a particular thing different than most comic books. In most comic books the heroes always do what is morally correct, in Watchmen the heroes kind of have a mind of their own they do as they please, yes they help society, but still they do as they please. Is kind of like they take advantage of being the heroes. Also watchman is like a parody for what was going on in the US at the time it was written. It is a representation of what was happening during those times, so if you think about it, it has some truth in between its lines. Watchman's content includes a lot of politics and it represents some politic issues that were occurring when the comic was written. So maybe is watchmen a politic-historic science-fiction comic? Who knows?

  1. Well I pretty much had that same initial impression of the book. Now it definitely makes a lot more sense to me now too. There are so many different ways to analyze it that it makes perfect sense.
